Who is in the data
Every authority that spent public money and every company that was paid, in all three streams.

A few hold most of the money
Entities split by their money over the whole period: what share of them falls in each band, and what share of the money. Each band opens in the list, filtered to exactly that band.
Contracting authorities

Who buys
Spending by type of authority
The money of all years, by type of authority. The number of authorities, the average and the flagged share appear on hovering a bar.
Most money goes through State companies: 1,315 authorities, 37% of the total. Most authorities, though, are Schools: 6,512, with only 1.5% of the money.
The type is inferred from the name, with the same classifier as the statistics section; almost all money lands in a precise category, not in Other.

How many partners each has
A relationship is an authority and a supplier between which money moved, in any stream. The charts show how many partners each has and how much a supplier depends on its main client.
Clients per supplier
42% of suppliers sold to a single authority, yet took only 4.4% of the money.
Suppliers per authority
An authority works with 136 suppliers on average.
Dependence on the main client
Of 41,897 suppliers with at least ten clients, 1,546 (3.7%) take 80% or more from a single one.
Dependence is measured only for suppliers with at least 10 clients: with one buyer, a company depends on it entirely and the figure says nothing. Indicator #04, supplier captivity
The largest relationships
the 500 largest relationships, by money
Each amount leads to the purchases it was computed from. For direct purchases and offline purchases the rows add up exactly to the figure; for tenders the notices the supplier won open, with the whole notice's value, not only its share.
- Contracting authority
- The authority that paid.
- Supplier
- The company that was paid. Indicator #04's symbol appears when the pair is a captivity case, and leads to it.
- Direct purchases
- Direct purchases between the two; the figure opens them.
- Offline purchases
- Offline purchases between the two; the figure opens them.
- Tenders
- The supplier's share of the authority's tender contracts; the figure opens the notices it won, at their full value.
- Total
- The three streams added up; the table is ordered by it by default.
- Of the company's revenue
- How much of the company's revenue comes from this authority. From 80% it reaches indicator #04's threshold.
- Of the authority's spend
- How much of the authority's spending went to this company.
- Period
- The first and last year money moved between the two.

Authorities and suppliers by registered seat. Nationally, 42% of the money goes to suppliers in the same county as the authority paying.

- County
- The county of the seat; links to its statistics page.
- Spent by authorities
- Everything the authorities seated in the county paid to named suppliers, wherever those are.
- Paid to suppliers
- Everything the companies seated in the county were paid, by authorities anywhere.
- Balance
- Paid minus spent: positive where the county's companies received more than its authorities paid out. The sign is not a judgement: large companies' seats pull money towards their county.
- Kept in county
- How much of the county's authority spending went to suppliers in the same county; this is the map's colour.
Over time
How many are active each year
The authorities that spent and the suppliers that were paid each year, and the suppliers paid for the first time.
* A year the data does not cover in full: the first starts in April 2018, the last is not over. In the first year every supplier is new, so it has no newcomer bar.
Flags
Who is flagged, by size
The share of each size band flagged by at least one indicator and by three or more, as the indicator dashboard counts them.
Contracting authorities
Suppliers
A large entity makes more purchases and clears the minimum floors of more indicators, so a rising curve is partly volume, not only conduct. Indicator dashboard
